Heather Doty is a senior project engineer at BAE Systems Inc., Space & Mission Systems. In this role, Doty works on the mission and process analytics team supporting enterprise reporting, human error management, records management, and facility tours.
Doty has held several roles during her time at BAE Systems. As the workforce development lead for manufacturing and test operations, she pioneered an apprentice program that was an entry pipeline for students at local technical schools and created and delivered onboarding training. As the engineering integration manager, she led strategic initiatives and coordination across the engineering organization. Prior to that, she spent more than 15 years in structural engineering, performing finite element analysis and supporting environmental testing for a variety of space hardware programs, from the optical system on NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to focal plane arrays for weather and earth-imaging payloads.
Doty is a senior life member of the Society of Women Engineers and has a long history of leadership service at multiple levels of the organization. She served as the FY21 SWE president, leading the organization virtually through the COVID-19 pandemic and accelerating SWE’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts. She previously served on the board of directors as president-elect, treasurer, and director of regions, and held every officer position in her local Rocky Mountain Section. Doty has been recognized with the SWE Distinguished New Engineer award, the Outstanding SWE Counselor award, and the Region I “Inspirational” Distinguished Service award.
Doty holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering, a B.A. in music, and an MBA, all from the University of Colorado Boulder. She lives in Boulder, Colorado, with spouse Jeremy and cat Chef Sullivan. Her hobbies include playing Zimbabwean-style marimba with Kutandara, cooking, and playing board and card games.
