SUMMARY:ECP AG: Professional Development Series
DESCRIPTION:The SWE Early Career Professional Affinity Group cordially invites you to our virtual event\, “FY26 Monthly Professional Development Series: November” on Wednesday\, November 19\, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. This month’s session features two insightful presentations focused on leadership\, career pivots and emotional intelligence. \nLeah Baker will speak on “Pressure\, Pivots\, and Possibility: Building Confidence Through Career Shifts”. Leah is an R&D engineer at Medtronic in Minneapolis\, MN\, and a University of Minnesota alum (ChemE & Chem ’22). She’s been involved with SWE since 2018 and recently wrapped up her role as the FY24 Society-level outreach committee chair. Outside of work and SWE\, Leah enjoys cycling\, softball\, and crafting. In this presentation\, Leah will present on her experience as an early career professional in tech sales including why she pursued a role outside of engineering. She will also share her experience transitioning back into an engineering career path and the role SWE played in this decision and transition. Finally\, she will also share insights on stepping up when her manager was let go. In her talk you will learn more about Leading without a title: Owning your impact early on; Joining and staying active in professional societies like SWE: Why it is worth it; and Getting the most out of conferences and industry events. \nEmily Carney will speak on “Lessons in Emotional Intelligence from my bookshelf”. Emily (she/her) is Director\, EHS & Continuous Improvement at Genezen\, based in Boston\, Massachusetts. Drawing inspiration from diverse industries\, she guides her teams to tackle the toughest challenges in cell and gene therapy manufacturing. Emily holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Tufts University. When she’s not improving complex systems\, Emily is strengthening her community. A master connector\, she’s known for bridging circles—from SWE and quilting to her fitness and mom’s networks. She actively serves on the SWE Editorial Board and dedicates time to environmental volunteer projects. \nMeeting details will be provided after completing the registration. \nTweetShareShare0 Shares
