It begins with a clear idea\, a solid foundation\, and an understanding of what investors and partners truly look for. \nThis workshop\, presented by SWE in partnership with the TMU Incubators and WiRE\, offers a deep dive into the early stages of venture creation and the art of pitching from the perspective of those who guide startups every day. \nWe are thrilled to welcome Dr. Philip R. Walsh\, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship & Strategy at the Ted Rogers School of Management. With extensive consulting experience across the North American and European energy sectors and as a registered professional geoscientist Dr. Walsh brings a unique industry and academic lens to startup development. \nIn this session\, you will: \nDiscover the incubation programs\, resources\, and support systems available to help turn ideas into ventures.Gain insight into real startup success stories that began within incubation environments.Understand the key steps in the incubation journey from early concept validation to preparing for external opportunities.Learn how to craft an effective pitch from experts who have heard and evaluated hundreds of them.Explore what makes a pitch compelling\, memorable\, and investment-ready.Join us to build your foundational skills\, connect with SWE\, WiRE\, and TMU’s incubator network\, and learn how great ideas grow into impactful solutions. \nDr. Philip R. Walsh: He is an Associate Professor\, Entrepreneurship & Strategy at the Ted Rogers School of Management. He was formerly a Lecturer in Corporate Strategy and MBA Programme Director at the University of Surrey\, U.K. Prior to joining academia in 2003\, he was the Managing Director of a consultancy that provided strategic planning and policy services to major energy utilities\, a number of governmental and municipal agencies\, and various Canadian and British energy consuming organizations. Dr. Walsh is the Faculty Advisor for TMU’s Energy and Natural Resources Association\, a Fellow of the TMU Entrepreneurship Research Institute and a member of the TMU Institute for the Study of Corporate Social Responsibility.
