Free Resource to Strengthen the U.S. Patent Process: Inventor’s Patent Academy

SWE supports diversity within the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USTPO) patent making process to ensure a more inclusive and equitable system.

As part of our efforts, we’re pleased to highlight our partnership with Invent Together, which brings together universities, nonprofits, companies, and other stakeholders around a shared belief: that everyone should have the opportunity to invent and patent their ideas.

Presented by Invent Together, the Inventor’s Patent Academy is a free e-learning course created to help people understand patenting and intellectual property and prepare them to apply for their own patents. It also explores some of the challenges inventors may face along the way—particularly those that typically affect women, people of color, veterans, lower-income individuals, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented inventors—and provides the tools needed to take them on.

By supporting the Inventor’s Patent Academy and advocating for diversity within the USTPO patent making process, those involved help create a more inclusive and supportive environment for inventors of all backgrounds. This not only benefits individual inventors, but also has the potential to spur innovation and economic growth by allowing a broader range of voices and perspectives to contribute to the development of new technologies and products. Ultimately, advocacy for diversity within the patent making process is a crucial step towards building a more just and equitable society for all.
