SUMMARY:MAL FY26 December Event: “Power Women Panel”
DESCRIPTION:Summary:\nThe “Power Women Panel” will feature two engineers in the power industry from both the product and utility perspective. They will highlight career experiences starting as electrical and mechanical engineers as a steppingstone to many interesting jobs and career opportunities. The idea for this topic came from the MAL virtual networking event in July\, with additional participation from WE25 follow up. Participation is welcome from collegiate and affinity groups to include Early and Late Career and Retirees. Additional “power women” are welcome to join in interactive Q&A with the panel.\nPanelist Bios:\nCheryl Kennedy\nS&C Electric\nProduct Manager – Vista® and Vista® Green Underground Distribution Switchgear and C&I Strategy\nCheryl Kennedy is a mechanical engineer and MBA with 30 years of experience in the electrical industry working for equipment manufacturers. Prior to coming to S&C Electric\, she worked exclusively with commercial and industrial customers. After completing her engineering degree\, she supported low and medium voltage switchgear products in various roles at Eaton Corporation. While working for Schneider Electric\, her focus was on smart building technology and datacenter low voltage electrical metering. She is now the Product Manager for a growing line of gas-insulated medium voltage switchgear.\nCara Smith\, E.I\, PMP\nConsultant & FPL Retiree\nCara\, an electrical engineer\, has been employed in the electrical industry since 1978. She began her career as an apprentice electrician in the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee program. She was employed as a Union commercial and industrial Journeyman Wireman and became a Florida State Certified Electrical Contractor before enrolling at the University of South Florida where she earned her BSEE degree. After graduation\, she joined Florida Power & Light (FP&L) Company where she worked in Distribution then Substation Engineering. Cara moved into project management and worked up to the position of Manager Project Management in the Transmission & Substations Major Projects Group\nIn addition to her consulting work supporting the FPL Fiber Optic Planning & Engineering Group\, Cara serves on the Board of Directors for PowerNet Credit Union\, the North Florida Prescribed Burn Association\, the Florida Women Landowners Association and her neighborhood’s property owners association. She is a Florida Certified Prescribed Burn Manager and enjoys traveling with her husband and two dogs in their motorhome.\nCara has been a member of SWE since joining as a collegiate member in 1993.

SUMMARY:Women in Engineering: Thriving in the Age of AI
DESCRIPTION:Join the South Ohio SWE Section for this virtual presentation! AI is transforming every industry and engineering is no exception. In this interactive 40-minute session (plus 10-minute Q&A)\, we’ll explore what artificial intelligence really is\, where the career opportunities are emerging\, and why your subject-matter expertise is more valuable than ever. \nWe’ll tackle common fears about being “replaced” by AI and shift the focus to how you can partner with these technologies to expand your impact\, not limit it. We’ll dive deep into conversation\, share collective wisdom\, and learn from each other’s experiences. \nAbout the speaker: Kendra Ramirez\, CEO of KR Digital Agency and co-host of CincyAI will lead this engaging session. Join us to build confidence\, clarity\, and a forward-looking perspective on how women in engineering can lead in this new era of intelligent innovation.

SUMMARY:ECP AG: WE25 Recap Part 2
DESCRIPTION:The SWE Early Career Professionals Affinity Group cordially invites you to our upcoming virtual event\, “WE25 Recap Part 2” on Tuesday\, November 18\, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT! Did you miss WE25? Join us for this session as we recap on ‘Increasing Success with Intergenerational Teams’ with Kathryn Wittek & Emma Koslow and ‘The Art of Design Review’ with Rebecca Lin. Kathryn and Emma will talk about how the workplace is more diverse than ever before\, including now FIVE different generations working side-by-side. This age diversity brings a variety of different mindsets\, skill sets\, and communication styles. What kinds of challenges does this present? How do these differences affect our ability to work as a team effectively and have a productive work environment? This session will provide an overview of the various generations commonly found in the workplace\, highlighting their unique characteristics\, strengths\, and the value each brings to the team. We will explore different communication styles\, offering insights into how each generation gives and receives information. The discussion will also cover effective strategies for motivating individuals across the generational lines\, fostering collaboration\, and enhancing team morale. By understanding these dynamics\, we can gain practical tools to create a more inclusive\, engaging\, and productive work environment. Rebecca will address ‘The Art of Design Review’ going over the basics of a design review\, when they are used\, and the toolkit an engineer needs to successfully conduct one. Participants will walk away with strategies to implement in their next design review to maximize the time of your team to bring your project to life! \nMeeting details will be provided after completing the registration.
