SUMMARY:Reno High SWENext Hosts Hands of Gratitude Prosthetic Build Event
DESCRIPTION:Reno High SWENext members have invited the community to help with the construction of 3D printed prosthetic hands\, guided by Hands of Gratitude founder Matt Campana. Matt’s program was chosen because it is unique in that it provides materials and directly covers assembly\, delivery\, and donation to individuals all over the world for people in need. \nThe Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Sierra Nevada Section is sponsoring and actively participating in the Hands of Gratitude Build Event hosted by Reno High SWENext Club on February 2\, 2026\, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Reno High School. \nHands of Gratitude is an interactive program where participants assemble functional 3D-printed prosthetic hands in a collaborative environment. Completed prosthetics — accompanied by decorated carrying cases and heartfelt notes — are then distributed to recipients around the world\, giving volunteers a hands-on experience that connects engineering with empathy\, leadership\, and global impact. \nThe purpose of the Hands of Gratitude Build Event is to encourage young women and all attendees to engage with engineering in a meaningful way: applying technological skills to improve lives. The Reno High SWENext Club aims to build 10 prosthetic hands during the event\, with support from the SWE Sierra Nevada Section\, the University of Nevada\, members\, friends\, and community partners. The event will also feature food and drinks\, a brief presentation from event leader Matt Campana of Hands of Gratitude\, and opportunities for attendees to connect and learn more about engineering pathways. \n“What makes this event special is that students aren’t just learning about engineering\, they’re using it to help someone in a real\, tangible way\,” said Audrey Bound\, SWE Sierra Nevada President. “When young women can see the direct impact of their skills\, it changes how they see both engineering and themselves.” The event is open to SWE members\, friends\, students\, and members of the public interested in supporting this mission.

SUMMARY:Thriving Early in Your Engineering Career: Lessons for the First Five Years
DESCRIPTION:The early years of an engineering career are often filled with questions—Am I focusing on the right things? What actually helps me move up the ladder? How do I position myself for long-term growth? \nIn this interactive\, podcast-style virtual session\, Deepika Sidana\, Senior Engineering Manager at American Express\, will be joined by Kamila Kalchakeeva\, Software Engineer at American Express\, for an open and candid conversation about thriving in the first five years of an engineering career. \nDrawing from 14 years of industry experience\, Deepika will share reflections on what she did right\, what she would approach differently\, and how early-career decisions compound over time as engineers progress into senior and leadership roles. Kamila will bring the perspective of an early-career engineer\, sharing the real challenges she is navigating today\, the questions she is asking\, and how she is thinking about growth and advancement. \nThrough a dynamic back-and-forth discussion\, this session bridges two career stages—offering attendees both seasoned insight and a current early-career viewpoint. Participants will gain practical guidance on building credibility\, increasing visibility\, and positioning themselves for the next level with clarity and intention.

SUMMARY:Bringing the ECP AG to Your City: Directory Introduction and Networking
DESCRIPTION:The SWE Early Career Professionals Affinity Group cordially invites you to our virtual event\, “Bringing the ECP AG to Your City: Directory Introduction and Networking” on Thursday\, January 29th at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. The event is designed to encourage networking within and diversify the membership of the SWE ECP AG Directory and associated LinkedIn group. The event will introduce the SWE ECP AG Directory and how it can be used to find individuals in your area to meet up with and the associated LinkedIn group that can be used for virtual networking. There will also be a chance to play a fun game in a small (virtual) group. A key advantage to this event will be the ability to network with fellow AG members in the same general geographic area (that is\, if you feel comfortable sharing your location before the event). There will also be targeted questions regarding local sections and involvement at the professional level. This\, along with information about how to coordinate local meetups\, will hopefully encourage AG members to reach out to local sections and individuals for in-person events. All are invited to attend\, including current Directory members and non-members alike. \nNote that registration for this event will close on January 27th (2 days prior to the event). \nMeeting details will be provided after completing the registration.

SUMMARY:Members at Large (MAL) FY26 January Event: “Leading While Lifing”
DESCRIPTION:There are seasons when life becomes heavier\, not in abstract ways\, but in real\, destabilizing ones. A health issue. Caregiving for someone you love. Family upheaval. Loss. Ongoing uncertainty that doesn’t pause just because work expectations keep rising.\nAt the same time\, professional demands rarely slow down. Deadlines remain. Decisions still need to be made. Teams\, clients\, and stakeholders continue to rely on you to show up steady and capable.\nLeading While Lifing™ is a one-hour session for professionals who are navigating increasing responsibility at work while dealing with personal disruption — their own or someone else’s — and need a more strategic way to stay effective without running themselves into the ground.\nThis is not a session about balance\, resilience hacks\, or “doing it all.” You will leave with a clearer way of thinking about your role\, your limits\, and your choices during demanding seasons — so you can respond intentionally rather than operate on endurance alone.\nSpeaker Bio/About the Founder: Terra Winston\, Principal of inTerract\nTerra Winston\, Principal of inTerract\, has dedicated her life to helping her clients unleash the potential of each employee. She is a leadership consultant and executive coach with 20 years of internal and external business consulting experience. Terra has a flexible style that has driven results in boardrooms and on plant floors\, for Fortune 100 companies and small start-ups\, alike.\nTerra’s successful approach comes from her unique blend of “hard” and “soft” business skills. She holds a BS in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia\, an MBA from Stanford University\, and coaching certification from The Coaches Training Institute and the International Coach Federation. Prior to founding inTerract\, Terra worked at Deloitte as a consultant on process\, strategy\, and organizational engagements and as a Director at PepsiCo doing traditional HR\, and organizational development.\nWith an expertise in coaching\, leadership development\, and facilitation\, Terra implements a broad variety of custom solutions for her clients. As a coach she helps leaders and entrepreneurs make meaningful impact on their organizations. A sought-after speaker\, Terra delivers workshops and keynotes that do more than entertain – they give attendees the tools to change behavior.

SUMMARY:ECP AG: Financial Literacy 101
DESCRIPTION:The SWE Early Career Professionals Affinity Group cordially invites you to our upcoming virtual event\, “Financial Literacy 101” on Tuesday\, January 13\, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT! Managing money can feel like a maze – investing\, saving\, credit\, financial research\, navigating money with a partner; there is so much to figure out that many people end up stuck\, unsure of where to even begin. It does not have to be that way. This event is aimed to help you build clarity and confidence in your financial journey. We will break down the essentials in a simple\, practical way: how to start investing even with limited resources\, why compounding works in your favor\, how to approach financial education without overwhelm\, and how to stay aligned when managing money with a partner. We will also highlight helpful resources to support your continued learning. We encourage both students and professionals to attend! \nSpeaker Bio:\nChristina Luebbert is the principal civil engineer and owner of Luebbert Engineering. She is a registered professional engineer in Missouri and a LEED Accredited Professional. Christina received her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and has spent over 30 years working with various aspects of land development and stormwater/floodplain management. Early in her career and marriage\, she worked to educate herself in many areas of financial literacy. With her husband Bill\, she has built a debt-free life where emergencies are mostly just inconvenient instead of budget busters. They cash flowed their children’s education and have saved/invested so that retirement is something to look forward to without worry. They did this on modest salaries knowing that small consistent behavior trumped praying for a windfall. \nMeeting details will be provided after completing the registration.
