Dayna Johnson, P.E.
Ecolab
For broad and transformational leadership; for dedication to helping women engineers realize their full potential; and for fostering a sense of unity and purpose that drives SWE’s growth.

Dayna Johnson, P.E., is director of technical consultants, sustainable growth solutions for Ecolab. In this role, she leads a growing global team of consultants dedicated to providing customers with water-saving strategies to help meet their climate goals through the Ecolab Water for Climate program.
Johnson began her career as a civil engineer, spending nearly a decade focused on water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment and conveyance projects, ensuring communities had access to safe drinking water and clean rivers and streams. She then pivoted, taking a job at GE Renewable Energy as a proposal manager for the Substation Solutions team.
Johnson held a number of sales, commercial, and marketing roles at GE and completed GE’s Accelerated Leadership Program. Her roles within Power and Energy spanned renewable energy and utility substations, aeroderivative power generation, and decarbonization for the energy transition. The leadership skills gained throughout her career combined with her civil engineering background inspired her to join Ecolab. Throughout her career, the constant has been a commitment to sustainability, clean water, renewable and clean power, and the availability of crucial resources.
Johnson holds a B.S. in civil engineering and an M.S. in engineering management from Valparaiso University. She is a registered professional engineer in Illinois and is an accredited professional in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, known as LEED.
Johnson began her involvement in the Society of Women Engineers in college and has remained active, holding leadership positions at all levels of the organization. A SWE senior life member, she has been active in the Chicago Regional Section, previously serving as section president, and at the Society level, serving on multiple committees and task forces. She is a past awards and recognition committee chair and senator and spent six years on the SWE Board of Directors, culminating with her tenure as fiscal year 2023 SWE president. Johnson received the SWE Distinguished New Engineer award in FY12 and the Emerging Leader award in FY19. Valparaiso University honored her with its Outstanding Young Alumni Award in 2018.
During her time in SWE leadership, Johnson sought to grow and enhance the organization’s global membership. The stories from global women inspired her to ensure women everywhere could benefit from the services SWE offers. Johnson also enjoys mentoring women around the world, motivating them to achieve their best in engineering fields. She regularly speaks at school, scouting, SWE section, and employee resource group events and volunteers at gatherings focused on promoting a positive image of engineering.
Johnson is active in her Toastmasters club and her church. She lives in the Chicagoland area with her husband, two sons, and two family dogs. Johnson enjoys hiking, traveling, DIY home projects, and decorating cakes for family.
