Welcome to our WE23 conference issue. Whether you are planning to join us for WE23 in person in Los Angeles or to attend virtually, or if you are reading to marvel at the accomplishments of our amazing award recipients, this issue is for you. There is a lot to be excited about as we prepare to host thousands of SWE members, advocates, employers, and more at WE23.
As usual, we will have a giant Career Fair full of employers looking to hire engineers and technologists at all levels. It’s an opportunity to go get that job!
I am personally excited for the inspiration and growth that everyone attending WE23 will take away from our three keynote talks. All three speakers are amazing leaders who are shining examples of this year’s theme, “Live Without Limits.” And we will once again have Inspirational Insight sessions — including the popular “State of Women in Engineering” update, providing powerful information and stories sure to elevate attendees’ awareness. If you are joining as a virtual attendee, you will be able to see all the keynotes and Inspirational Insight sessions, plus more than 60 additional sessions with your virtual registration.
A big part of being able to live without limits is knowing that you belong and that you have others supporting and empowering you to succeed. I want every person reading this to know that you belong in SWE, and we have conference programming aligned with your affinities and interests. From meetups and sessions hosted by our SWE Affinity Groups to special events like the Women of Color Luncheon, and a wide variety of personal development, technical, and SWE-focused sessions, there is something for everyone at WE23. In addition to attending the events that you are excited about, I hope you take time to network, grow your circle, and feel the support of your fellow SWE members.
I’m also looking forward to Friday evening, when we celebrate our many awards recipients in an event that will be inclusive and open to all attending. We will hear from our inspirational Apex award winners and celebrate everyone’s achievements together.
Finally, I cannot wait for the thrilling closing ceremony, featuring amazing acts of magic, illusion, and entertainment. I cannot think of a better way to personify living without limits than a show that defies limits.
One final tip for those attending in person: I encourage you all to look up from your phones as you are arriving at the conference to see just what a big impression WE23 is making on Los Angeles.
