Unconditional Family Support Key to Engineer’s Achievement
SWE 2025 Achievement Award recipient acknowledges role of family, teachers in her success.
I am deeply grateful to the Society of Women Engineers for honoring me with the 2025 APEX Achievement Award.
This recognition reminds me of my incredible journey — from the moment I chose engineering back in high school — and of all the people who’ve supported me along the way.
When I immigrated to Canada at the age of 5, I faced many challenges in school. My grandparents, especially my maternal grandfather, encouraged me through his regular letters and taught me to work hard, stay committed, and never give up. Those lessons still guide me today.
My parents gave me endless love and support. They offered their wisdom, but also the freedom to make my own choices. I am so thankful for their trust in me and my decision to choose engineering instead of the health sciences field in university.
I’ve been fortunate to learn from dedicated educators and to work with incredible mentors, people who believed in me even when I doubted myself and helped me achieve levels of success beyond my expectations.
My collaborations with brilliant researchers and technical staff at the National Research Council Canada, as well as at research institutions and universities across the world, have been deeply rewarding. Their partnership helped my research make an impact across multiple disciplines and make a difference.
And finally, I owe everything to my family: my beloved parents who remain forever with me in my heart; my husband, Jitendra; my sister, Mona, and her family; my in-laws; and my sons, Jatin and Deven. You are the foundation of my happiness, balance, and motivation.
This honor is shared with each of you who have been a part of my journey. Thank you for believing in me, supporting me, and inspiring me to keep striving for excellence.
