According to the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap 2024 Report, 23.4% of Belgian graduates in engineering, manufacturing, and construction (EMC) were women. According to data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), women make up a smaller proportion of students entering, enrolled in, and graduating from EMC programs when compared to men in Belgium.

According to the OECD, the proportion of women enrolled in EMC programs in Belgium has increased between 2018 and 2022. The percentage of women enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in EMC increased by 3.9 percent between 2018 (19.8%) and 2022 (23.7%). In 2022 (29.3%), a higher share of women enrolled in master’s programs than in 2018 (26.4%).

The number of women enrolling in EMC undergraduate programs has experienced a steady increase between 2018 (6,890) and 2022 (8,411). The number of women entrants in EMC bachelor’s programs has experienced an increase between 2018 (2,211) and 2022 (2,504). The number of women graduating has also increased between 2018 (1,365) and 2022 (1,743). In 2022, 24% of enrollments, entrants, and graduates in EMC bachelor’s programs were women.

The number of female enrollments, entrants, and graduates in EMC master’s programs has increased between 2018 and 2022. The number of women enrolling in EMC master’s programs increased between 2018 (3,426) and 2022 (4,207). In 2022, 29% of enrollments, 26% of entrants, and 29% of graduates in EMC master’s programs were women.

Between 2018 and 2022, the number of women graduating and female entrants in EMC doctoral programs have experienced slight increases between 2018 and 2022. In 2022, 34% of entrants and 32% of graduates in EMC doctoral programs were women.
