Spain Tertiary Education

According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development (OECD), the number of women enrolled in engineering, manufacturing, and construction (EMC) programs in Spain has increased slightly between 2018 and 2022. For instance, the number of women enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in EMC increased by 1.7 percent between 2018 (25.7%) and 2022 (27.4%). In 2022 (39.0%), more women enrolled in master’s programs than in 2018 (37.6%). A higher share of women enrolled in doctoral programs in 2022 (31.6%) compared to 2018 (30.8%).

The number of women enrolling in EMC undergraduate programs has experienced a steady increase between 2018 (38,488) and 2022 (39,659). The number of women entrants in EMC bachelor’s programs has experienced an increase between 2018 (6,569) and 2022 (8,474). However, the number of women graduating has decreased between 2018 and 2022. In 2022, 27% of enrollments, 29% of entrants, and 29% of graduates in EMC bachelor’s programs were women.

The number of women enrolling in EMC master’s programs has increased between 2018 (18,843) and 2022 (20,310). While the number of female entrants has increased, the number of women graduating in EMC master’s programs has decreased between 2018 (5,799) and 2022 (5,603). In 2022, 39% of enrollments, 40% of entrants, and 37% of graduates in EMC master’s programs were women.

Between 2018 (3,535) and 2022 (4,010), the number of women enrolling in EMC doctoral programs increased. The number of women graduating and female entrants in EMC doctoral programs have experienced slight changes between 2018 and 2022. However, the share of women graduating has decreased from 2018 (38%) to 2022 (33%). In 2022, 32% of enrollments, 33% of entrants, and 33% of graduates in EMC doctoral programs were women.
