According to data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), women make up a smaller proportion of students enrolled in, entering and graduating from engineering, manufacturing, and construction (EMC) programs when compared to men.

According to the OECD, the share of women enrolled in engineering, manufacturing, and construction (EMC) programs in Turkey has increased between 2018 and 2022. For instance, the percentage of women enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in EMC increased by 1.4 percent between 2018 (28.8%) and 2022 (30.2%). In 2022 (36.5%), a higher share of women enrolled in master’s programs than in 2018 (31.4%). A higher share of women enrolled in doctoral programs in 2022 (38.8%) compared to 2018 (32.9%).

The number of women enrolling in EMC undergraduate programs has experienced a steady decrease between 2018 (145,558) and 2022 (135,842). The number of women entrants in EMC bachelor’s programs has experienced a decrease between 2018 (31,428) and 2022 (29,387). However, the number of women graduating has increased between 2018 (23,626) and 2022 (38,795). In 2022, 30% of enrollments, 32% of entrants, and 51% of graduates in EMC bachelor’s programs were women.

The number of women enrolling in EMC master’s programs has decreased between 2018 (25,980) and 2022 (24,537). However, the number of female entrants and graduates has increased. In 2022, 36% of enrollments, 34% of entrants, and 48% of graduates in EMC master’s programs were women.

Between 2018 (6,841) and 2022 (8,933), the number of women enrolling in EMC doctoral programs increased. The number of women graduating and female entrants in EMC doctoral programs have experienced slight increases between 2018 and 2022. In 2022, 39% of enrollments, 39% of entrants, and 46% of graduates in EMC doctoral programs were women.
