Dr. Diane Peters is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in dynamic systems and controls, carries out research on control systems, autonomous vehicles, and engineering education, and is the Principal Investigator on several major institutional grants. She also advises both undergraduate and graduate student research projects. In addition, she is a licensed Professional Engineer in both Illinois and Michigan.
Diane began her career in industry, designing industrial machinery for a variety of small companies in the greater Chicago area. She designed parts and systems for small printing presses at A. B. Dick Company, then moved on to designing automated assembly systems for Mid-West Automation/DT-Midwest, followed by designing cutting and finishing equipment for the commercial printing industry at Western Printing Machinery. She then returned to school for a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, and after a brief industry position at LMS International, she accepted a position at Kettering University as an Assistant Professor, subsequently being promoted to Associate Professor with tenure and then Professor.
Diane is a Fellow and Life Member of SWE, and has held a variety of positions at different levels. She served as a section officer in the Chicago section, has held committee chair positions for the Society, and served in the MAL organization.
Diane shares her home with two dogs, the Collie Nala and a “supermutt” named Phoebe. In her spare time, she does crafts, primarily quilting.
