SWE, the magazine of the Society of Women Engineers, received one top award and eight honorable mentions in the 2021 FOLIO: Eddie and Ozzie competition. Described as the “most inclusive recognition program in publishing for digital publications, magazines, regional titles, associations, and brands,” the competition “celebrates gorgeous design and engaging content” in myriad categories, across all sectors of the industry. The Eddies acknowledge editorial distinction, while the Ozzies honor outstanding design.

First place in Feature Design went to Art Director JoAnn Dickey for “Examining the Impacts of COVID-19 on the Engineering Pipeline,” from the 2021 edition of the State of Women in Engineering, SWE’s annual research issue.
The issue also earned honorable mentions for Anne Perusek, SWE Director of Editorial and Publications, in the Supplemental, Annual, or One-Shot Publication category, and for Dickey’s cover design.

Dickey’s design work was recognized again with an honorable mention for the Fall 2020 feature, “How Do We Create Systemic Change?
”Perusek and Troy Eller English, SWE archivist, captured an honorable mention for their March 2021 podcast, “SWE Stories, Tales from the Archives: Getting from There to Here in Public Policy.”

Under News Coverage, honorable mentions were earned by Marsha Bragg, SWE contributor, for the Conference 2020 story, “Young Topologist Solves Ages-Old Knotty Problem,” and contributor Seabright McCabe, for “Unbreakable Bricks: Transforming Plastic Waste,” from the Spring 2021 issue.
Rounding out this year’s awards, honorable mentions in Feature Writing went to contributor Sandra Guy for “How Do We Create Systemic Change?” (Fall 2020) and McCabe’s “Engineering and the Arts: Working for a Better World” (Conference 2020).
