As the Hull Structural Construction Superintendent for the CVN-21 Program at Northrop Grumman Newport News, Alma Martinez Fallon leads project management, planning, design/build, manning plans, and construction in preparation for the construction contract award in 2007 for the next-generation aircraft carrier, CVN 21.
During her 16-year career with Northrop Grumman Newport News, Fallon has contributed as an engineer or supervisor on numerous engineering design projects in auxiliary piping and machinery systems for the Seawolf submarine, commercial ship, and aircraft carrier Programs. Her most recent assignment was as the Manager of Planning and Manufacturing Engineering for the Structural Fabrication and Assembly Division. She was responsible for the structural manufacturing planning for the George H. W. Bush aircraft carrier, the CVN-21 aircraft carrier, the Virginia Class construction programs, and SAP/ERP3 implementation.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Fallon’s parents immigrated to the United States when she was 9-years-old. Alma received a B. S. in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University and a Master in Engineering Management from George Washington University.
A national and visible leader in several professional engineering societies, Fallon has a long and dedicated record of achievement in outreach for women and minorities in the engineering profession. She was the 2004 president of the Society of Women Engineers and a senior life member. She currently serves ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) on the Council on Public Affairs. The Committee on Staff is an ASME Fellow and was recently elected to serve a three-year term on the ASME’s Board of Governors. This makes her the first Hispanic elected to serve in this capacity in the ASME’s 125 years history.
In 1997, Fallon was selected as one of SWE’s distinguished new engineer award recipients. She is the recipient of the 1999 Peninsula Council Doug Ensor Award for Young Engineer of the Year. In 2002, she received the ASME Dedicated Service Award, and she was selected as one of America’s leading minority women in technology by the Hispanic Engineer and Information Technology magazine. Fallon is also the Society Hispanic Professional Engineers 2004 Junipero Serra Award recipient.
Alma Martinez Fallon is married to Bob Fallon, and they live in Gloucester Point, Va. When she is not in the office or volunteering her time with SWE and ASME, she enjoys her time with her husband and their three corgis.
