Empowering
Engineers and Leaders
with over 65 years of SWE scholarships
For over 65 years, SWE has proudly supported the careers of future engineers by awarding scholarships to students pursuing degrees in engineering and technology.
Since the inception of the Lillian Moller Gilbreth scholarship in 1959, SWE’s scholarship program has consistently upheld its commitment to empowering students to achieve their full potential as engineers and leaders.
By providing financial assistance, this program has helped over five thousand students on their journeys of academic and professional success over six decades. As we celebrate this milestone, we reflect on the remarkable growth and impact of our program.

Hear from Our Scholarship Recipients: Voices Across the Years
Congratulations to our 2025-2026 scholarship recipients! To learn more about our recipients, check out our blog post on All Together.
"My SWE scholarship allowed me to purchase all of my textbooks and required lab materials without worrying about the cost. In the past, I sometimes had to delay buying materials, which made it harder to keep up with assignments. Having that burden lifted allowed me to begin the semester prepared and confident. That experience reminded me how powerful this support is—not only easing financial stress but also giving me the tools to succeed in my classes and career journey."
"Receiving a SWE scholarship has been so validating and makes me feel so encouraged and supported. It reminds me that there is a community that believes in my potential and is invested in my future as an engineer. The scholarship reduced financial stress and allowed me to dedicate more time to my studies and professional development. It also strengthened my connection to the SWE network, motivating me to pursue leadership opportunities and expand my career horizons."
"Receiving a SWE Scholarship has been both an honor and a lifeline. It symbolizes recognition of my hard work and potential, while also providing critical financial support that helps me stay focused on my academics. It also represents the power of mentorship and encouragement. I’m especially grateful to my mentor, Andrés Mansisidor, who has consistently inspired me to grow and become the best version of myself."
"The SWE scholarship brought me necessary financial support and connected me with a wonderful community of people like me in STEM."
"The SWE scholarship program has been a helpful financial boost for me during graduate school, and has given me the opportunity to network with an employee matched to me at GE Vernova who attended my same school for a PhD program, and provided his advice on what his career was like and how his career aspirations evolved and changed during and after his doctoral program. This was an important perspective I wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and I made a good connection and a friend!"
"I had an incredible experience and receiving the scholarship greatly supported my current career as a Physician-Scientist in training. In a field with very few women, the scholarship also gave me the confidence and reassurance that I could succeed. Since switching into healthcare/academia, SWE inspired me to find similar organizations in the field. In the past five years I have grown in the organization and am now the current chair of the National Association of Women Surgeons Medical Students Committee and am also an early career member of the American Heart Association Women's Leadership Committee. I am incredibly grateful to SWE for showing me the power of women in science groups!"
"I've been the grateful recipient of SWE scholarships which have helped fund both my undergraduate and graduate education. As an added bonus, after graduation, I began working for Carollo Engineering, and as part of working there, I was invited to be on the Board of Directors for the Susan E. Stutz McDonald Scholarship Foundation, who funded the SWE scholarship I received. It's been lovely to be a part of the full circle of scholarships. I'm also on the SWE scholarship committee, which I've been on for a while, because I want to give back and help other people benefit from the scholarship opportunities that SWE provides."
"In 2020, I was awarded the Jill S. Tietjen, P.E., Scholarship. Being able to talk to the donor of my scholarship has been a significant part of my scholarship experience. After talking just once, Jill and I formed an amazing connection that has carried forward to the present day. We meet virtually for mentoring chats on a regular basis with topics that range from engineering, SWE, leadership, and of course life's many challenges as an early career engineer. My experience was overall very positive even in the midst of receiving the award during COVID."
"The SWE Scholarship had a tremendous impact on my academic journey! It is hard to manage a tight budget as a graduate student on top of everyday adult responsibilities, like being financially independent and surviving on my own, plus the everyday stress of graduate school. This scholarship gave me the peace of mind that I need to be able to focus on my studies and not on how I could complement my income to survive independently. Thanks to this scholarship, I was able to not pay for my student fees and save to buy a new computer that could handle all my numerical simulations. Now, I also have the tranquility that I can conclude my data collection on time, as my laptop is appropriately running my simulations without issues."
