Anabel Fraga, Ph.D., is a computer science and systems engineering professional and an associate tenured professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Her central research areas are systems/software engineering, information engineering, knowledge management, and reuse. She also explores ethics and innovative learning methods that help students in their educational journey.
Dr. Fraga is an experienced knowledge management and domain architect with experience in projects in the academic and industrial environment. Highly skilled in dealing with diverse and complex domains, she is adept in computer science, semantics, Linux/Unix, and algorithms.
Dr. Fraga has taught undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Information Engineering, Programming, Software Engineering, Component-Based Systems Design, Semantics and Ontologies, and Quality of Systems and Software, with an average of 60 students per semester.
Teaching a wide variety of students from Europe, Asia, and the United States led her to celebrate diversity in the learning process, combining it with her methodology of learning based on projects and applying knowledge, systems thinking, and critical thinking to the real world. Her efforts also include innovation projects supported by the university’s department of innovation.
Dr. Fraga is a member of many engineering organizations. She is currently president of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Spain Chapter, and served as its treasurer (2016-2023). She is the associate director of events for INCOSE Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). She also serves as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) representative and INCOSE deputy associate director of tech review. She also coordinates the financial management activities of the Knowledge Reuse research group at her university. In addition, Dr. Fraga is active in the Object Management Group, Sociedad Española para el Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural (the Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing), and the Computer Science Teachers Association.
Dr. Fraga holds multiple certifications and is extensively published in knowledge management, systems engineering, requirements engineering, software engineering, and ethics. She holds three patents and has led four European Union research projects. She is also co-leading an innovative and inclusive project in Spain for teaching advanced IT concepts to people with neurodevelopmental disorders aimed at guiding them to independence and professional careers.
Dr. Fraga is recognized as being in the top 4% of professors at the university and among its top 25% of researchers. Known as a gifted communicator by colleagues and students alike, she has lived in Finland, Germany, Brazil, and many other countries. Although her native language is Spanish, she speaks fluent English and Galician, and wants to be fluent in several other languages.
Dr. Fraga earned a B.S. in computer science and engineering, an M.S. in e-commerce and networks, and a Ph.D. in computer science and information systems, all from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She loves spending time with family, helping people, watching sci-fi series, enjoying nature and animals, and showing others that kindness is the best way to move forward.
