The SWE Early Career Professionals Affinity Group cordially invites you to our virtual event, “Professional Development Series” on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. This month’s session brings together two inspiring speakers who will share valuable insights to help you shape your career path and elevate your professional growth.

Dr. Sumeyra Sakalli will speak on “Finding Your Voice in STEM: Culture, Imposter Syndrome and Professional Writing”. In this session, the attendees will learn:
• How cultural differences and imposter syndrome affect professional communication and visibility in STEM
• How to improve effective writing skills in professional contexts (e.g., job applications, grant proposals)
• Strategies for overcoming imposter syndrome and confidently presenting work and ideas

Dr. Leah Shoer will follow with a presentation on “How to get there from here: identifying and targeting your career trajectory”. Attendees will learn strategies to identify what they are interested in, what they are good at, and what skill gaps they may have. From there, she will discuss some ways to position oneself to make positive choices regarding one’s career trajectory.

Both students and professionals are encouraged to attend!
