About the Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
The Society of Women Engineers, founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders. SWE is comprised of over 40,000 members from across the world from all engineering and technology disciplines, which makes SWE a preeminent not-for-profit organization respected among the engineering community.
SWE’s mission is to empower women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.
SWE’s four goals are as relevant today as they were with the Society’s inception:
- There will be an increase in women choosing to enter the engineering and technology fields.
- Women in engineering and technology will excel professionally, and their achievements will be showcased and valued.
- SWE will be a catalyst for changing the professional climate to enable women in engineering and technology to excel.
- Women in engineering and technology and SWE stakeholders will find value in SWE as a diverse, inclusive, global community.
