MAL FY26 August Meeting: “SWE MAL University Panel / Networking”

This event with include a panel of SWE collegiate leaders from universities that are considered part of the Members at Large section. Based on links on the SWE section Web site, officers have been invited from siz universities for panel participation, but all MAL universities are invited to participate in the networking event as kickoff to the FY25-26 academic year. In addition to panelist providing highlights of university SWE activities, we will invite any others who join to introduce themselves as part of a networking event. Opportunities for the SWE universities to leverage MAL virtual program events and SWE resources will be discussed.
Confirmed Panelist Bios:
Binghamton University: Valeria Gonzalez is a biomedical engineering undergraduate student passionate about combining engineering and medicine to improve human health. Originally from Mexico, Valeria has lived across the U.S., adapting to change while building a diverse academic and professional foundation. Her experiences range from pharmaceutical operations at Megalabs North America to surgical observation in oncology at Hospital Ángeles in Mexico City, and now recently joined Medtronic as an R&D Engineering Intern at the Surgical Robotics Unit. Valeria is preparing for her new role as president of the Society of Women Engineers chapter as she enters her senior year at Binghamton University in New York. She has served on the executive board for the past 3 years: taking on DEI Chair, Fundraising Chair, and now President. Valeria is driven by empathy, curiosity, and a commitment to service. After graduation, she hopes to work in the medical device industry, contributing innovative solutions that align with her long-term goal of helping others live healthier, longer lives. Texas A&M: Emily DeGraff is a senior mechanical engineering student at Texas A&M University and the FY26 President of SWE-TAMU. She has been actively involved in SWE throughout her college career, serving in two committee chair roles and an officer position before stepping up as President. Passionate about SWE’s mission, Emily is dedicated to fostering community and professional growth and hopes to stay involved well beyond graduation.

Virgina Tech: Morgan Peterson is a senior in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech with a passion for naval and oceanic systems. Growing up in a Navy family, she has lived around the world—from Hawaii to Guam—shaping her global perspective. Professionally, Morgan has worked as a biomedical research intern for a startup developing cell-sorting microfluidic devices and has completed two internships with Northrop Grumman across the Space, Defense, and Mission Systems sectors. Following graduation, she plans to return to Northrop Grumman Undersea Systems as a systems engineer specializing in testing and integration. An active leader in the Society of Women Engineers, Morgan currently serves as President of SWE at Virginia Tech, having previously held the roles of Vice President and Community Outreach Chair.
