Summary: The SWE Legends Project, a SWE Late Career and Retiree Affinity Group (LCR) project, embarked on a mission to honor the achievements of SWE pioneers by improving and enhancing the public information available on Wikipedia. Their efforts were inspired by SWE’s mission to “expand the image of the engineering and technology professions as a positive force in improving the quality of life.” After WE24, this project took on an expanded scope: Write a book about the first 25 Achievement Award recipients to coincide with SWE’s 75th anniversary. In this session, learn about the first 25 achievement award recipients and their contributions to technology, how they became role models for the subsequent generations of women engineers, and how their pioneering paths paved the way for their success.
Learning Objectives:
● Describe the technical accomplishments of SWE’s earliest Achievement Award recipients.
● Understand how their accomplishments contributed to society.
● Raise awareness of the SWE Achievement Awards program.
