Reno High SWENext Hosts Hands of Gratitude Prosthetic Build Event

Event Date:

February 2 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm PST

Reno High SWENext members have invited the community to help with the construction of 3D printed prosthetic hands, guided by Hands of Gratitude founder Matt Campana. Matt’s program was chosen because it is unique in that it provides materials and directly covers assembly, delivery, and donation to individuals all over the world for people in need.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Sierra Nevada Section is sponsoring and actively participating in the Hands of Gratitude Build Event hosted by Reno High SWENext Club on February 2, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Reno High School.

Hands of Gratitude is an interactive program where participants assemble functional 3D-printed prosthetic hands in a collaborative environment. Completed prosthetics — accompanied by decorated carrying cases and heartfelt notes — are then distributed to recipients around the world, giving volunteers a hands-on experience that connects engineering with empathy, leadership, and global impact.

The purpose of the Hands of Gratitude Build Event is to encourage young women and all attendees to engage with engineering in a meaningful way: applying technological skills to improve lives. The Reno High SWENext Club aims to build 10 prosthetic hands during the event, with support from the SWE Sierra Nevada Section, the University of Nevada, members, friends, and community partners. The event will also feature food and drinks, a brief presentation from event leader Matt Campana of Hands of Gratitude, and opportunities for attendees to connect and learn more about engineering pathways.

“What makes this event special is that students aren’t just learning about engineering, they’re using it to help someone in a real, tangible way,” said Audrey Bound, SWE Sierra Nevada President. “When young women can see the direct impact of their skills, it changes how they see both engineering and themselves.” The event is open to SWE members, friends, students, and members of the public interested in supporting this mission.
