Advocating Women in Engineering Award
Kelly Meredith
Lockheed Martin
For mentoring women, from interns to aspiring fellows; for advancing SWE’s drive toward diversity and inclusion; and for wholehearted dedication to raising a new generation of women engineers.

Kelly R. Meredith is an associate fellow and software architect for Lockheed Martin Rotary Mission Systems, or RMS, in Owego, New York, focusing on software, avionics, and modular open systems. She is currently shaping the future through her role as software architect, designing a technical reference framework with the U.S. Navy. Meredith is further helping shape open systems through research for NATO focusing on open system architecture and interfaces for the Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability.
Meredith is the technical lead for the modular open systems approach, known as MOSA, collaborating with the U.S. Army through modular open systems demonstrations to help build an open systems playbook. Previously, she completed an assignment as the core architecture team lead for the 21st Century Joint All Domain Operations data fabric, which has become the data backbone of the Lockheed Martin Lighthouse/Indo-Pacific Command customer demonstration events.
Meredith strives to advance the tenets of the Lockheed Martin Fellows program: helping solve difficult problems, ensuring mission success, and growing future technical experts. She is an active mentor to several employees at various professional levels and is active in many STEM outreach activities. She also serves as an advisor for the senior capstone projects at Binghamton University Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science and is an awards judge for the Society of Women Engineers.
Meredith is a founding member of a pilot program in Lockheed Martin that will help rising technical talent progress to the level of fellow. Experts in each of the tenets of the fellowship program educate and mentor members of the program.
Prior to this, Meredith worked in various subprograms under the Naval Helicopter Program umbrella for approximately 20 years. She gained well-rounded experience in every phase of integration, from proposal and beginning concept through to the maintenance phase. During this time, she received several company awards, including three Diversity & Inclusion Awards and a top 25 Women in Innovation recognition from Rotary and Mission Systems in 2020.
Meredith is a graduate of Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Technical Leadership Program and is a certified qualified software architect. She earned a B.S. in computer science at the State University of New York at Buffalo and an M.S. in computer science at the State University of New York at Binghamton. She is a certified Level 1 Scrum Master.
Meredith spends her spare time hiking with her beloved German shepherd, quilting, and experiencing the beauty and culture of other countries.
