Anne Ryerson
John Deere
For translating ideas into action that builds diverse teams; for demonstrating professional excellence that inspires others; and for consistent, enthusiastic outreach to the next generation of women engineers.

Anne Ryerson is the common electrical systems engineering manager for agricultural engineering at John Deere. She leads a global team that develops core electrical systems for integrating new technology into John Deere agricultural equipment to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and lessen environmental harm.
Ryerson joined John Deere in 2001 as an electrical engineer. Over the next 13 years, she showcased her exceptional technical and leadership skills in various roles, including electrical design and product safety. In 2014, she received a promotion to combine vehicle electrical systems supervisor and, for the past 11 years, has provided strategic leadership while expanding her technical and global influence.
Inspired by a manager who helped her see her full potential, Ryerson has spent her career inspiring other women in engineering and fostering youth outreach. In 2010, she led the inaugural John Deere Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. The event now reaches 650 participants and attracts 200 volunteers. In 2014, she founded the John Deere Society of Women Engineers outreach committee to support girls from elementary school through college. This committee has created many opportunities for SWE members across John Deere to mentor and give back to their communities, including an intern mentoring program that pairs women engineers with summer interns. The committee also leads planning for Girl Day events worldwide.
Ryerson has mentored women engineers at all career stages. She is a certified leadership coach, helping new managers develop leadership skills. Additionally, she has mentored high school students in her Geneseo, Illinois, community through Girl Scout Gold Award projects, engineering design projects, and Advanced Placement research projects.
Committed to opening doors for local youth to explore engineering, Ryerson started a FIRST LEGO League team for a local school district and led several teams to the Illinois state tournament. She currently serves as a volunteer referee for regional FIRST LEGO League tournaments. Ryerson also initiated an outreach program connecting youth and engineers from historically underrepresented groups, enhancing visibility of future opportunities and career paths. She has organized STEM events for her local Girl Scout council, enabling girls to earn various STEM badges.
An active SWE member, Ryerson is the vice chair of SWE at John Deere and has volunteered with global SWE outreach. She is also a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and received its Sunkist Young Designer Award in 2015.
Ryerson earned a B.S.E. in electrical engineering at The University of Iowa and an M.S.E. in agricultural engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She enjoys knitting, attending live music events, and hiking with her husband and three sons.
