Martin Stier

HP Inc.

For career-long advocacy of women in the workplace; and for leveraging his position as a human resources leader to coach executives on advancing women and historically underrepresented groups.

Martin Stier x

As global head of the people organization, global business units, and global functions for HP Inc., Martin Stier manages 75 human resources (HR) professionals and provides strategic leadership to 10 of the C-level executives and their leaders who support more than 35,000 HP employees around the world. He has 25 years of executive HR experience and a strong commitment to advocating for women in the workplace. Stier is the first Latino to join the HR leadership team at HP. As the grandson of a woman who escaped the Nazis, and the son of a woman who dedicated 50 years of her life to education, he understands the importance of equal opportunity for women.

Responsible for HP’s overall people strategy for global business units and global functions, Stier oversees the long-term workforce plan, facilitates organizational change and transformations, fosters the “HP Way” culture, and drives diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. In addition to HP, Stier has directed HR at DHL and The Clorox Company in Brazil, Argentina, and the United States. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and has taught talent management in Argentina.

Stier has sponsored many programs at HP that support, promote, and sponsor women in the workplace, such as Catalyst, Fast Forward, Building a Winning Culture, and Spark WIN. In partnership with local women leaders, he expanded HP’s employee resource groups (ERGs). His involvement has resulted in the number of Women’s Impact Network (WIN) ERGs throughout the company more than tripling, creating a strong and inclusive culture of women’s empowerment in HP sites worldwide.

When Stier became HR leader of HP’s printing business in 2016, he was challenged to bring more women onto the leadership team. As a result of Stier’s efforts, the representation of women at the most senior levels of the printing business grew from 10% to 40% in one year. During his tenure, HP promoted two women to the most important technical roles in printing, and one woman has since moved into a top general manager role.

Stier helped launch and scale Fast Forward, a sponsorship and development program for women executive engineers. It began with 30 participants in 2019 in the United States and expanded to Europe and Asia, reaching more than 100 women engineers. Through his efforts, 75% of participants from the printing business received promotions and expanded roles within one year of completing the program.

Stier’s volunteerism within HP includes serving as executive sponsor for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at HP, executive sponsor of the HP Pride and Hispanic/Latinx ERGs, and mentor with HP Women Sponsorship Programs, among other roles.

Stier earned a B.A. in business administration at Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a postgraduate degree in human resources at Universidad de San Andrés, Argentina. He lives in Miami, Florida, with his wife Vicky and their two children.
