Temppest Reed

The Boeing Company

For exemplary technical leadership that improves aircraft safety; for creative and collaborative skill that solves complex problems; and for uplifting others as both volunteer and mentor.

Temppest Reed x

Temppest Reed is the Boeing Global Services practices and processes senior engineering leader and the enterprise product support deputy for design practices. In this role, she supports nearly 7,000 engineers across the global services organization, managing process writings and the development of design practices for knowledge retention, management, and transfer within The Boeing Company’s engineering disciplines.

Fourteen years ago, Reed began her career at Boeing as an intern in the Vertical Lift division. Since then, she has held various positions of increasing responsibility within Boeing Commercial Airplanes; Defense, Space & Security; and Boeing Global Services, leading projects and teams across engineering and manufacturing sectors to improve life cycles, and enhancing affordability, analytics, safety, and quality.

She has worked with engineering leadership in commercial training, government training, and product support to ensure Boeing Global Services engineering has exceeded design practice development goals, creating a robust catalog of mandates and best practices for the enterprise engineering and executive council to help them meet performance goals. Under her leadership, the team led the development of a technical design review tool that has been replicated across the business units of defense, commercial, and research and technology.

Reed is a member of several resource groups within Boeing and is a graduate of the Leadership NeXt development program. Previously, she was a member and team lead of the Boeing Philadelphia Diversity Council and was presented with a Leadership Among Peers award for her contributions to the team.

Reed has supported diversity initiatives representing approximately 2,000 engineers at the Philadelphia site. During this time, she led community service events, created an Aramark cuisine menu for Native American Heritage Month, and led Family Day activities for more than 400 attendees, supporting the Centers of Excellence. She also served on the Philadelphia STEM Academy board, assisting a science and engineering teacher with proctoring exams and establishing course material for students in the Greater Philadelphia region.

Reed has been an active member of several engineering groups, such as the National Society of Black Engineers and the Boeing Black Engineers Managers Association. She received the Women of Color in Technology Rising Engineer Award in 2014 and the Black Engineer of the Year Technology Leader Award in 2019, as well as several awards for lean project management and productivity improvements at the site level and Boeing Defense, Space & Security business unit level.

Reed has also been an active volunteer, supporting recruiting events sponsored by Boeing for historically Black colleges and universities, and she is the multicultural program focal for Boeing for The Pennsylvania State University.

Reed earned a B.S. in industrial and service systems engineering at The Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from Villanova University. In her spare time, she enjoys astronomy, spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, visiting museums, and teaching and mentoring STEM.
