How does SWE define re-entry and nontraditional applicants?

Applicants who have been out of school for at least two years prior to beginning their current course of study may be considered re-entry or nontraditional applicants. The full definitions of each classification are below. Applicants must satisfy all requirements in order to meet the below definitions.

Re-entry

  • Students who have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study
  • Students who have been out of the engineering or technology workforce for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study
  • Full or part time students
  • Students entering any year of engineering school, including graduate school

Nontraditional

  • Students who have been out of school for a minimum of two years prior to the beginning of the current course of study and did not study engineering during prior studies
  • Full or part time students
  • Students entering any year of school, including graduate school
