Conference preparations for SWE’s first-ever hybrid conference were underway from late summer to fall, including podcasts with the accomplished and inspiring keynote speakers and FY22 President Rachel Morford. Various other promotions, designed to generate the enthusiasm and community typical of the annual conference, were also in full play.
At the same time, by planning for both in-person and remote participation, SWE has been mindful that the health and safety of all attendees is as central to the conference experience as are the camaraderie and quality programming of more typical years. The SWE community is a community, and whether one meets others in person or virtually, it is the connection and shared mission that matter.
From the fall issue of the magazine, there was an abundance of buzz surrounding the issue’s theme — transforming corporate boards. Reflecting on pathways to board positions, a podcast with longtime SWE leaders who are also corporate and nonprofit board members provided insights and encouragement to anyone contemplating a board position. The dialogue’s energy was the perfect complement to the suite of articles in the magazine, which covered the how and why of developing more diverse boards.
And the aspiration for a board experience, or simply the desire to understand a bit about how boards work, speak to the value of the SWE conference experience. At WE21, all the ingredients are available to learn, grow, and move toward fulfilling board ambitions, or any other professional or work/life goal one may have.
