Colleen Layman

Colleen LaymanColleen Layman served as the SWE FY16 President. Colleen Layman, P.E., is a vice president with HDR, an engineering consulting firm headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. She is responsible for directing the engineering and business development activities focused on solving clients’ challenges related to industrial water and wastewater management and treatment practices in the energy sector and managing the industrial water and wastewater technical QA/QC and risk assessment processes.

Layman has been involved with SWE since 2000. She served both the Baltimore-Washington and Lehigh Valley sections as treasurer and president and Region E as treasurer and region governor. At the Society level, she has been a member of the awards, scholarship, and finance committees and was deputy director of regions. In addition, Layman has served on the board of directors as director of regions and president-elect and was honored to serve as Society president for FY16.

A registered professional engineer, Layman holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering technology, an M.S. in water resources and environmental engineering, and an MBA in engineering and technology management. She is a member of ASME. She has worked on several committees and the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania, serving on the board of directors and as a water conference general chairperson in 2014 and 2015.

Layman has served multiple years as a judge for the United States Environmental Protection Agency P3 Student Design Competition for Sustainability. An avid scuba diver, she works with a dive shop as a PADI divemaster.
