Susan E. Stutz McDonald Scholarship

Susan E. Stutz Mcdonald Scholarship

Susan E Stutz-McDonald [1954 – 2005]

Susan was born in Chattanooga, TN on January 24, 1954.  She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga in 1972 then went on to receive her civil engineering degree with honor in 1976 from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.  Susan also received her Master’s Degree in Sanitary Engineering from Oregon State University in 1977.  Susan was married to Hugh McDonald, and they had three children together.

Career Susan began her career with Carollo Engineers, Inc in 1978.  Through her hard work and dedication, Susan rose to the highest levels within the company.  In addition to her role as a Senior Project Manager, Susan also became a Partner in 1992, led the company-wide marketing efforts as Chairman of Carollo’s marketing committee since 2000, and served on the Board of Directors for four years.  Susan was passionate about the water and wastewater industry which led to the completion of numerous successful environmental projects with Carollo Engineers.

Other Affiliations Susan was dedicated to training and mentoring young engineers with a specific interest in promoting the achievements of women in the industry. As a means of advancing this goal, Susan’s desire was to establish a Non-Profit Foundation for providing scholarships to women engineers to help expand their education and career in the environmental engineering field.  Shortly after her passing in 2005, the Susan E. Stutz-McDonald Scholarship Foundation was established, to help accomplish Susan’s goal.

Scholarship The Susan E. Stutz McDonald Scholarship was established in 2017 by the Susan E. Stutz-McDonald Scholarship Foundation.  SWE members in their graduate studies pursuing an engineering degree focused on water/wastewater engineering with undergraduate degrees in chemical, civil or environmental engineering focused on water/wastewater engineering are eligible to apply.
