The SWE New Jersey Section was chartered on October 10, 1970. SWE New Jersey spun off from the New York Section, which had many New Jersey residents, including founding president Beatrice Hicks. This section originally supported professional women engineers in the entire state of New Jersey. In 2020, a new section, Southern New Jersey, was spun off to support the southern part of the state. The SWE New Jersey Section Endowed scholarship was established in 2008 to support incoming freshman engineering and engineering technology majors whose home state is New Jersey and plan to attend college in New Jersey.
