Women’s Representation in the Australia Engineering Workforce: Women are severely underrepresented in the engineering workforce. In 2018, only 12.4% women comprised the engineering labor force, which is more than a percentage decrease since 2017. Moreover, the probability of remaining in their occupation is lowest among engineering women, specifically in two age groups: 25 to 34 and 55 to 64.
Starting Salaries of Engineering Graduates: In general, new engineering graduates tend to have higher median starting salaries than graduates from other fields. Further, a trend in the persisting gender pay gap favoring males is seen in the median starting salaries among graduates from other fields. On the other hand, in 2018, it appeared that no such gender pay gap was present in the median starting salaries of engineering graduates, and that the median starting salary for both men and women engineers was equal ($65,000).
