Data from the last three annual reports created by the Board of Engineers Malaysia show that the majority of registered engineers across various levels tend to concentrate around three specific engineering disciplines: civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering. However, the majority of registered professional engineers and professional engineers with practicing certifications (highest level) are in civil engineering.
Over the last several years, the proportion of registered women graduate engineers has increased from 25% in 2016 to 29% in 2019. However, this representation does not translate over to registered professional engineers and registered professional engineers with practicing certificates (the latter group represents the highest level professional engineers tend to achieve). Specifically, in 2019, women represent about 8% and 7% of registered professional engineers and registered professional engineers with practicing certificates, respectively.
