The Society of Women Engineers’ Research Division was created in 2016 to focus on issues associated with gender equity in engineering education and in the engineering workforce in countries where SWE is active. We are a resource for the latest data and information on issues involving women in engineering. The SWE Research Division collaborates with researchers on projects that further the success of women in the profession and encourage females to pursue a career in engineering.
SWE Research Priorities
The SWE Research Division is currently focused on research activities that support the following:
- Inspiring girls to pursue a STEM education
- Supporting educational pathways that lead to a career in engineering
- Increasing diversity and inclusion in engineering education and the workforce
- Promoting efforts that encourage women to stay in the profession
We welcome the opportunity to collaborate or contract to support research efforts that align with SWE’s mission. View our resume to learn more about our team’s expertise:

SWE Research Working Group
The purpose of the Research Working Group is:
- To help ensure that SWE Research supports SWE’s mission and goals.
- To communicate member opinions and share their expertise and experience with SWE Research staff, in support of SWE’s research efforts.
- To help coordinate with other working groups and staff members to disseminate research findings to SWE members, SWE suborganizations, SWE corporate partners, and relevant external audiences.
Understanding that SWE Research operates with limited staff and resources, the Research Working Group provides guidance and a sounding board on current and future SWE research activities and offers feedback on current research projects. In addition, the Research Working Group brainstorms on potential research areas that SWE could pursue, identifies potential collaborators, and assists with evaluating requests for SWE participation with external research projects.
The Research Working Group replaced the Research Advisory Council in 2025. SWE members can learn more about serving on the Research Working Group here or contact the working group leads at research-workinggroup@swe.org.
