United Kingdom Degree Attainment: While the number of first degrees awarded in engineering and technology to women has increased over the last years, the proportion of engineering and technology degrees awarded to women has remained relatively stagnant at less than 20% (HESA, 2021). In the 2019-20 academic year, only 17.9% of the first degrees achieved in engineering and technology were obtained by women. In 2017, one of the highest percentages of females obtaining engineering first degrees was in the discipline of chemical, process, and energy engineering (24.2%) while the lowest percentage is in mechanical engineering, where women represent under 10% of the first degree holders.
